What is IT asset disposition (ITAD)?
IT asset disposition (ITAD) is the controlled retirement of business technology. Rather than leaving old laptops in a storeroom or handing mixed scrap to a general waste contractor, ITAD treats every retired device as an asset that carries both risk and value.
A complete ITAD project has five parts: an asset record of what is leaving your site, collection under a documented chain of custody, an agreed method for data-bearing media, value recovery for equipment that can be reused, and responsible recycling for everything else.
The sequence matters because risk sits in the gaps. A drive that was never tracked cannot be shown to have been destroyed, and a pallet that was never itemized cannot be reconciled against your asset register. ITAD closes those gaps and replaces assumptions with a paper trail.

Data destruction and wiping: choosing the right method
Every retired device that contains storage is a data-security decision. The right method depends on the type of media, whether the device will be reused and your internal policy, so we agree it with you before any work begins.
NIST Special Publication 800-88 describes three levels of media sanitization. Clear uses logical techniques to protect data against simple recovery attempts. Purge applies stronger techniques intended to resist laboratory-level recovery. Destroy makes the media unable to store data at all. Our processes are aligned with this guidance. NIST SP 800-88 is a guideline rather than a certification, so we describe our work as aligned, not certified.
